Kandima Maldives started its seasonal festivities on 22nd December with the Christmas tree lightning ceremony on the Breeze beach. Everybody was invited to join the bubbly cocktail party at sunset during which the carol singers were entertaining the guests with the festive tunes. We’ve celebrated our second Halloween since the resort opening in 2016. The spooky celebrations started with the Haunted Dinner in Zest restaurant, and finished with an epic Scary Party at Breeze Pool Bar, during which everybody was invited to have their face painted, participate in the magician’s performance, enjoy blood-themed drinks and listen and dance to the live music by the local performers.
Our executive Chef Ken Gundu has decided to let our chefs shine by organizing a Mystery Box Cooking Challenge! Four culinary teams from Kandima Maldives and one from Niyama Maldives competed against each other while cooking dishes from the ingredients provided from the Mystery Boxes last Sunday. Both staff and guests could join the judging panel and name the winner after the cooking part was over.

In September Kandima Maldives hosted Taylah Cannon, the newly crowned winner of the Miss World Australia 2018 pageant and the Top 4 finalists on its tropical playground for a series of professional photography and video shoots. The finalists’ Kandima experience was documented by Australia’s Chanel 10 and a well-known TV presenter and reporter, Scott Tweedie. Here’s an unfortunate statistic from the island nation – more than 90% of shallow coral reefs in the Maldives died when El Niño, a climatic phenomenon, raised sea temperatures by 4°C in 1998. The higher than usual temperatures have been coming back to the Maldives ever since leaving no time for the coral reefs to regrow and heal themselves.
We’re so excited to become the main sponsor of the contemporary art exhibition ‘Unveiling Visions’, which will be held at the National Art Gallery and hosted by the Maldivian Artist Community (MAC) between September 3-7, 2018 in the city of Malé. The exhibition will feature works by 50 Maldivian artists of ages 18-35; under 6 main categories – painting, drawing, calligraphy art, 3d installation, digital installation and sculpture. Launched in 2017, ‘Unveiling Visions’ will offer live art sessions, workshops, artist talks and fun-filled events for children.
